I have been a die-hard Redskins fan my entire life, and it is definitely my greatest passion. All of my knowledge and fandom can be traced back to the one person who this article is dedicated to, my grandmother, Erma Huskey. The crocheted “HOG” and the Super Bowl champion Coke bottle in the photo above were both from her collection that she passed on to me (the Sonny Jurgensen signed helmet was a gift from my amazing wife). There was never one single game where she couldn’t be heard for miles cheering on her Redskins. “Woo Woo Woo Woo!!!!!!!!” She even got Joe Gibbs to send her a team-signed ball after the 1987 championship season after writing a personal letter to Joe Gibbs (not in the photo, but I also have the ball in my trophy case). Joe also sent her a second ball with just his signature that she left to my uncle.
I have a never-ending supply of optimism for my team, but I also understand the game on a deeper level. As a former football player and avid student of the game, I know quite a bit more than your average NFL fan. Check in on this blog regularly to see weekly articles and analysis, and follow us on twitter @TheBurgundyBD to catch our in-game analysis/commentary. My primary goal is to create content that is worth reading and provides new insights, and perhaps add a few new Redskins fans to the crowd along the way. Thank you to everyone who reads this.
